About a year ago, I bought a 5-pack of Kodak Ektar 120 film. I had limited experience with Ektar prior to that so I’m not sure why I felt compelled to buy a pack of it. I still had a couple rolls left and decided to load 1 into my Yashica Mat-124G.
I had shot rolls of Ektar in my Yashica twice before with once with so-so results and once with better results. I think part of the problem with the so-so results was that I went out on a cloudy day so the images turned out a bit dull.
With this recent roll, I went out on a sunny, spring day and the pictures were much better which was also the situation with the roll that had better results (well, sunny but not spring). I also shot at 50 ISO. Box speed for Ektar is 100. More recently, I’ve been shooting my color film 1 stop over-exposed which has worked out well.
I went for a short walk in our neighborhood looking for signs of spring. It was a bit early in March so there wasn’t a lot of trees and flowers in bloom, but I was able to find some.
Of my other photos, I rather like the composition of this photo of The Church of the Holy Trinity aligned with the newly built The Laurel Residences.
I’m also pleased with a few other shots I took along the Schuylkill River Trail. The picture of the Schuylkill River includes some hard to see ducks. The photo along the Schuylkill Banks is one of those pictures where I didn’t see something interesting (the crooked lamp post) until after I got the roll developed. I was mainly looking at the couple of people sitting close to the water.
I also took a picture of a house as well as a couple of shots of the railroad tracks near the Schuylkill Train which turned out just OK.
I had 1 frame left, and I saw a tree nicely in bloom and decided that would make the perfect last image. However, when I tried to take the shot, nothing happened. I thought it was one of those situations when I was only able to get 11 frames from the roll, but it turned out that I accidently took a shot without realizing it.
Since I had already lined up the shot, I still took it with my Samsung Galaxy S+.
I have 1 more roll left of the 5-pack. I’m glad that this roll turned out better than the last roll I took in my Yashica Mat-124G. Although I liked these results, I’m not sure if I liked them enough to go with Ektar again soon.
