During a lunch break while working from home, I dropped off some film at my local film place, Photolounge. I brought along my Olympus XA loaded with Kodak Ektar. I had shot about half the roll and wanted to get closer to finishing it.
Since I was on my lunch break, I didn’t have a lot of time so didn’t expect to finish the roll. Photolounge is close to where we live so I’ve taken a lot of pictures between home and there. To make taking photos in such a familiar area more interesting, I somewhat arbitrarily decided to take pictures of red things. Luckily, there were so many red things that I was easily able to finish the roll quickly.

Other than a couple images with focusing issues (I’m still getting used to the XA), I was rather happy with how this impromptu project turned out.
When I got the roll developed, I was pleased to see that many of the pictures I had previously taken also unintentionally featured red.

Coincidentally, my “first of the roll” photo I took while loading my film also prominently features red with a red back of a cookbook on the shelf, the box from this roll of Kodak Ektar, and the end part of a box of Kodak Color Plus inserted into my Minolta X-700.

There were a handful of photos that didn’t have red or had red in brick buildings which I didn’t really count since red brick buildings are so common in our area that it seemed unfair to include them.

This was the third roll I shot with the Olympus XA, and I have really enjoyed using it and have been mostly pleased with the results.
I was intrigued by using a color theme as a guiding principle for going out to take pictures, and I would imagine I would try it again with other colors. But the cool thing about starting with red is that it comes with a theme song:
