I’ve been remiss in keeping up with this blog. I began a new job in September which sapped a lot of my attention and energy as I adjusted to my new life. But I’m starting to feel more settled and hope to get back into more of a regular routine not only with this blog but with my non-work life in general.
I just want to highlight some of the more interesting and successful photos from the past couple of months.
I was particularly pleased with my photo of a small waterfall at Longwood Gardens. It was the first time I tried to use a slow shutter speed to capture motion. I do not own a tripod but was lucky that the waterfall was near a short wall where I was able to brace myself.
In September, Holly and I took a walk to Dilworth Park at City Hall to check out the Pulse art experience which sends up jets of water and lights up green when the underground trolley goes by. We were there during the day so did not get the full experience as the lights didn’t have as much of an effect as they would at night, but it was still interesting. We also saw the new-ish Octavius Catto Sculpture. I had my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with the EF 24-105mm f/4L lens.
That same month, we went with my brother to Longwood Gardens for his birthday. None of us had been there before and did not know exactly what to expect. It was a lot bigger and more formal than any of us thought it would be. It was a rather warm day so we only got to see part of it. We talked about heading back closer to Christmas to see how they decorate for the holiday. Again, I had my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with the EF 24-105mm f/4L lens.
I did get out to shoot some film. I went for a walk around our neighborhood and some other nearby spots in the city with my Minolta XE. I’m finally getting a feel for that camera and was rather happy with how most of the pictures came out. I shot with Kodak Professional Porta 400 which I hadn’t used before.
October meant Staycation when we take the week off from work to attend the Philadelphia Film Festival and try new restaurants. Holly and I are in the process of dusting off and rejuvenating our food blog, now called Simple Goodness, so I hope our food pictures show up there sometime in the near future. But we also did a lot of walking around town including seeing The Rail Park, Race Street Pier, Cherry Street Pier and all the steps in-between. I brought along my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with the EF 24-105mm f/4L lens.
I also went out once with my EF 17-40mm f/4L lens. I like some of the photos but feel I still have a lot to learn about shooting with a wide angle lens and about how to best edit the photos.
