During the weekend of Thanksgiving, Holly and I went for a walk to Philadelphia’s Chinatown to find a new mural, The Past Supporting the Future by Eurhi Jones, Chenlin Cai, and Yvonne Lung.
I had seen pictures of this online and knew I wanted to take color photos of it so I brought my Nikon Z fc with my Nikkor Z DX 18-140mm lens.
I took a handful of pictures on our way to Chinatown, including 3 of another mural, Pride and Progress by Ann Northrup.
Although I’ve taken several pictures of our Friendship Gate, I couldn’t resist taking a couple more.
I took several more photos around Chinatown, including a shot I took while walking by a produce stand which turned out interesting in an odd, jittery way. And we came across another couple of murals.
Of course, our main goal was finding the The Past Supporting the Future mural which we did. The mural is high up on the side of a building, but I was able to get a couple nice shots.
Finally, on our way home, I took a picture of a Christmas tree at East Market.

TheChina Town gate is pretty similar to Portland , Oregon’s gate.

Thanks. I’ve also seen the Friendship Gates in Seattle and in Washington DC, and they look similar as well.

Tacoma and Seattle both have poor history regarding our Chinese brothers & sisters. The racist fathers of Tacoma came in the middle of the night and forceably loaded the Chinese residents of Tacoma onto a train and sent them to Seattle.
Seattle used to have a robust Chinese community down near Pioneer Square, but it was essentially removed through condemnation by eminent domain for urban renewal and the community lost most of their homes and businesses After, the area was a blighted desert for years and then they built the King Dome.
I was with friends in West Seattle on a roof top deck I had built for a friend and watched the implosion of the King Dome. We toasted with champagne the removal of that monstrosity and then went sailing.
Seattle must have felt guilty(speculation) about the treatment of Seattle’s Chinese community so built the gate. International Way/Aurora Ave seems to be the Chinese/Asian area now.
