I finished the tracing project I referred to in my January 2021 Update. It was another wine bottle to follow-up on the one I did in December 2020.
As usual, I took a photo of the label and then exported it into Procreate. I used to be able to use the “Import a File” function in Procreate to import photos, but I can no longer navigate to my Dropbox. This was the way I had brought pictures in before, but now I need to go to Dropbox and export the file to Procreate. It’s not a big deal, but I need to remember to do that before getting into Procreate. I have a feeling this is more of an iPad issue than a Procreate one.
This tracing project was a bit more complicated than some of my other ones, at least the other wine label ones, not only because the design is very intricate, but also because the curve of the bottle had more of an effect on the photo. As I traced, I had to make some adjustments along the sides of the image and with the cat’s tail.
The label is from a bottle of Sharon Weeks Cattoo Central Coast Catatonic White which we got through Naked Wines.

Instead of trying to draw the gold portions on a black background, I decided to draw the black parts and then make a gold layer to show through underneath. I thought about making the entire background black but chose to use a different color to preserve the contour of the bottle.
As I’ve mentioned before, I really love the option in Procreate to capture a time lapse of my work.
As I’ve also mentioned before, I find these tracing projects rather therapeutic.
In a couple of situations, such as my Pipeño wine label and my Keep Cool But Care lettering, the tracing was part of a more traditional drawing project which was a fun way to combine tactile drawing with digital.
